Certificate II in Millinery- Flat pattern hats materials and equipment

In these classes you will learn how to design patterns and make 3 different types of hat out of fabric using a sewing machine, berets, baker boy hats and casual fabric hats (either summer or winter).
To make flat pattern hats you will need the following equipment

  • a pencil case with pens, sharp pencil, rubber, pencil sharpener, paper scissors & a felt tip pen.
  • a 30cm ruler, set square, a set of french curves (these can be got for about $10.00 from Officeworks or similar)
  • a tape measure (the best ones for this have an eyelet hole in the end)
  • a notebook
  • a big ring binder with plastic sleeves (those envelopes that can be opened and closed are the best). You will be using this to file your patterns and toiles.
  • your sewing kit with thread, scissors for fabric, clippers for thread, pearly headed pins, tailor's chalk
You will not immediately need materials for making your hats. We will discuss fabric requirements in the first and second lesson.
